We sat down with the ever-stylish Emma Riemersma, one of South Australia's most respected fashion voices, for a quick chat on all things style, creativity, and how she wears EVER on the go.
Let’s dive in.
1. Let's start at the beginning... how did your journey into styling begin, and what drew you into the world of fashion?
"Even as a kid, I was completely obsessed with fashion and music—and I have my sisters to thank for that. They were always pretty alternative, so I grew up soaking in their unique style and watching music shows. Music culture was the heartbeat of my early interests. I was always fascinated by how fashion could tell a story or express an idea, it honestly felt like it was embedded in my DNA.
Naturally, I followed in my sisters' footsteps and started out as a hairstylist, then moved into makeup artistry. That soon led to interstate work and eventually editorial fashion shoots. Back then, a stylist often wasn’t part of the team, so I’d step in—gathering clothing, pulling looks together, and realizing I had a knack for seeing the whole creative vision. That moment sparked something. Today, in my work as a fashion editor, stylist, and creative director for brands, that same passion drives me: telling compelling visual stories with an amazing team by my side."
2. How would you describe your personal style 2025? Has it shifted over the years?
"Over the years, I’ve followed about a million different trends—some of which I definitely regret. These days, I’d say my style is a little more refined. Being Fashion Editor for SALIFE MAGAZINE for the past 11 years has made me super conscious of what I buy—less impulse, more intention. I really try to buy less but buy well, choosing pieces that fit my body, feel comfortable, and ideally come from brands with a sustainability or slow fashion ethos.
That said, it’s hard to pin me down to just one style personality. One day I’m feeling classic, the next sporty, and then suddenly I’m floating around in a beautiful dress. But the one thing that never changes? Accessories. I have to wear them. I’m a detail-driven person, and I truly believe it’s those finishing touches that elevate any outfit—whether I’m in activewear or headed for the red carpet."
3. What are the top 3 fashion trends you're seeing (or predicting) for the rest of 2025, especially when it comes to dressing for both comfort and confidence?
"Look 1: Well, I’m not just saying this—but ‘Ever’ Jewellery is definitely having a hero moment (and rightfully so!) with ‘athleisure styling’ still a huge statement. What I love most is how trans-seasonal and layer-friendly this look curated athletic look is. The key pieces you invest in can be worn in so many ways, over and over again. It’s all about building layers, mixing textures, and adding your EVER pieces will make you feel effortlessly cool.
Look 2: One trend that’s going strong this season—and showing no signs of slowing down into spring/summer—is suiting. Let’s be honest, a classic suit never really goes out of style, which makes it a smart place to invest. I love how versatile it can be—come summer, you can pair tailored pants with a gorgeous tank, or throw your blazer over jeans for a more relaxed vibe.
Look 3: If we’re talking colour, red is everywhere this upcoming season. And whether you’re a red-lover or a little red-shy, there’s an easy way to dip your toe in (literally!). A bold shoe, a poppy tee, a silky slip dress… or, my personal favourite—a killer red lip.
4. Everyday jewellery is having such a moment, especially pieces that complement activewear and athleisure. What's your take on styling fine jewellery with women with busy lives?
"I have to say, Jacquie - your jewellery kind of answers your own question! Your incredible pieces are total game-changers. They take you from a power walk in the morning, straight into the shower (yes, really!), and then onto your work out fit—because they’re designed to be sweated on and swum in.
Honestly, for busy women who don’t have time to switch up their entire look three times a day, this is a revelation. Just pick a gorgeous pair of earrings, a statement ring, and a couple of layered necklaces, and you’re good to go—from workout to work to sleep. It’s effortless style with zero fuss—and I’m very much here for it!"
5. You've worn EVER over the years and always look incredible in it. What do you love most about the brand? Has it filled a gap for women who want to feel polished, even mid-workout or running errands?
"As I mentioned earlier, it’s honestly a no-brainer. Ever jewellery takes you from workout to work looking effortlessly stylish, and it’s so comfortable you forget you’re even wearing it (until someone compliments you, of course!).
Another reason I’m such a fan? Travel. I’m heading to the tropics next month, and I’m genuinely thrilled that I don’t have to stress about packing heaps of accessories. I’ll be doing a lot of swimming and beach combing, so having my staple Ever pieces that I can wear straight from the plane to the pool to the sand is absolutely brilliant.
6. What places or spaces help spark your creativity, whether that's in Adelaide or just part of your everyday rhythm?
"I’m a passionate traveller and have spent time living in Europe, but my heart really belongs to South Australia. Working for a magazine that celebrates all the amazing things about SA makes it pretty obvious where my passion lies—but honestly, our quality of life and connection to nature constantly inspire me. I’m a bit of a dreamer, and that’s where my creativity comes to life.
Getting lost in play or conversation with my kids lets my mind be free and creative. I also love walking in nature — whether it’s the Adelaide Hills, the bush, or my all-time favourite: a beach stroll anywhere from Henley to the stunning boardwalk at Hallett Cove. That salty air is like instant inspiration! I also draw so much creative energy from the incredible friends around me—many of them are amazing artists—and from immersing myself in art and culture. A visit to the SA Art Gallery, a beautiful film, or just good music can totally reset my spirit and get the ideas flowing again."
7. Last one's a fun one: What's one thing people might not know about you - or one guilty fashion pleasure you can't live without?
"So, I’m turning 50 in a couple of months, and while I’m definitely not age-obsessed or particularly vain, I do absolutely love the ritual of skincare. It’s my little daily indulgence... and hey, the results aren’t bad either! I’m totally obsessed with layering products — morning, night, and pretty much anytime I can sneak a moment to myself. Oh, and I never leave the house without earrings and a necklace. Even if the outfit’s a bit dishevelled, you can bet the jewellery is on point!"
